There are two upcoming Sunday Salons at the Thomas Cole House: On March 6, David Bjelajac, Professor of Art and Human Sciences at George Washington University will speak on Thomas Cole, Freemasonry and the American Hercules. On April 3, Gay Myers & Lance Mayer, independent painting conservators based at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, will share some of their research on Hudson River School techniques during their presentation In the Studio with Thomas Cole, from their upcoming book American Painters’ Techniques: The Colonial Period to 1860. The lectures begin at 2pm with a reception afterward. Admission is $8 per person, or $6 for members. http://www.thomascole.org/current-events
The Cole House is also accepting applications for a part-time curator to assist with three main areas: the collection, the exhibitions gallery, and the “Cole Fellows” program. The Cole Fellows program may be of interest to graduating seniors, as it offers hands-on experience in the museum field, with an opportunity to tailor the work to the Fellow’s area of specialization. Possible areas of interest include art history, landscape studies, archeology, and social history. The program runs from June 1 through November 1. Housing is provided. The Cole house also accept interns year round for a variety of positions. Please call Melissa Gavilanes at (518) 943-7465 extension 5 for more information or see http://www.thomascole.org/internships/
